Mega Millions Is Up to $800 Million — Now One of the 10 Biggest Jackpots Ever

The Mega Millions lottery has been played for 132 days since the last jackpot, raising the game's top award to an estimated $800 million for the drawing on Tuesday (July 28).

Mega Millions' top 10 jackpots of all time now include the July 28 drawing.

The estimated top award has increased to the game's 10th-largest jackpot and the 18th-biggest lottery prize ever offered in the United States after 37 consecutive rollovers without a ticket matching all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball.

The July 28 drawing is predicted to have a lump sum cash option of $344.2 million. The $800 million jackpot that was advertised would be paid out over 29 years.

2026 Mega Millions Jackpots

The year 2026 has been sluggish for significant Mega Millions victories, as the jackpot has only been won two times.

In the drawing on March 10, someone in Illinois secured a prize of $533 million. The recipient chose to stay anonymous, using the label “Lucky Lady” to claim the transformative award. Just one week later, “The Happy Trails Trust” claimed a $60 million Mega Millions jackpot in Ohio.

Officials from Mega Millions indicate that this marks only the second occasion since the game's inception in 2002 that just two jackpots have been awarded by July 24. The previous instance was in 2024, which ended with an all-time low of only four jackpots distributed.

Powerball Jackpot

Powerball is currently experiencing a drought in jackpots, with 36 successive drawings having occurred without a top-prize winner. The projected jackpot for tonight’s (July 27) drawing stands at $633 million, with the cash option amounting to $277.3 million.

During the Saturday night drawing, six tickets came close to winning the jackpot, as they matched all five white balls but failed to get the red Powerball, each receiving $1 million.

This year, the Powerball jackpot has been won five times, most recently in May when two tickets from Florida and Texas shared a $20 million jackpot.

The largest Powerball jackpot claimed this year was a prize of $250.8 million, won by a ticket holder in Arkansas during the March 2 drawing.
